National Allotment Society - Talks on Zoom
© Hotwells & District Allotments Ltd 2007-2021
As autumn draws in and it gets dark much earlier, your Committee is delighted to bring you two more talks from excellent speakers. On Wednesday 20th October at 7.00pm, Allan Cavill, formerly the South West Regional Representative and for many years now our South West Mentor, helping to advise and deliver allotment sites across the region, will be talking about the “No Dig” approach to allotment gardening, a subject on which he is an expert and has been promoting for over twenty years. Allan has been gardening since his childhood and his talks on this subject are always well attended and very popular. He prefers to take a very interactive approach, so please come armed with your questions. If you care about the health of you soil, keeping weed growth down and making your allotment easier to work, especially if you are finding it more difficult with the passage of time, then this is a must hear talk. On Wednesday 24th November at 7.00pm, Andrew Cooper will give an illustrated talk on wildlife photography, with examples of some of the pictures he has taken during his career. Andrew is one of Britain's most distinguished and influential documentary television producers. As a broadcaster, presenter, writer and international award winning wildlife film-maker, he is a familiar face on BBC TV through his documentaries and live reports on wildlife and the environment. As a television producer with the prestigious BBC Natural History Unit he travelled widely over thirty five years, visiting more than 60 different countries from Cape Horn to the High Arctic and the Himalayas to Hawaii and working with people like Sir David Attenborough. He is also the author of several bestselling BBC books and his wildlife documentaries rank among the most popular in Britain. Andrew exhibits his photos and gives talks to many different audiences in all sorts of places, so we are really lucky that he has agreed to do this for us. PLEASE NOTE: Neither of these talks will be recorded, so if you wish to benefit from them, you will need to join the Zoom call. ACTION NEEDED: Associations/Societies – please circulate this information to all your members as we are not allowed to contact Affiliate Members directly. All Members and Affiliate Members – please send your email address to here.. if you would like to attend either talk and I shall send you the ID and Passcode for the meeting(s).
